Cody Turek’s Journey into Real Estate

Cody Turek is a Coral Shores alumnus whose lived in the Florida Keys for practically his entire life, aside from the years spent up North attending college. Grateful for the place he calls home, family and lifelong friendships that have been made over the last 26 years. However, the Turek’s ties to Tavernier didn’t just start with Cody, they began almost 70 years ago.

“My mother Chris Harris graduated from Coral Shores and is now a College and Career Counselor for her former high school. My father’s father and uncles bought a small motel in 1956, off the main road in the heart of Tavernier. The motel was called ‘Tropic Isle’ which they later expanded,” recalls Turek of his family’s history in the area. The Tureks built their next investment in the 1960’s, known to many as ‘The Turek Building’. The Turek building is a staple in the Tavernier community located off of US1 next to Boat Mart, occupied with local shops, offices & apartments.

Growing up in the active neighborhood of Plantation Key Colony created an unforgettable childhood, where friends were just a quick bike ride away. Turek spent most of his time trying out any sport he could. Founders Park had recently been built during his childhood, so countless days were spent on the field, courts, pool, beach or skatepark with friends.

Fishing was obviously another hobby that took up a considerable amount of Turek’s time, a passion that continues to this day. Lucky for Cody, his brother Jake is a successful fishing guide out of Bud & Mary’s, so the two have been able to have some memorable fishing trips. Cody explains that fishing in the Florida Keys is un-matched.

The Bayside offers the option to sight fish the shallow flats between hidden mangroves and catch one of the game fish that satisfy a majority of the Back Country. Ocean side presents an entirely different form of fishing and is located conveniently on the other side of the bridge. Hunters are able to jump into the water with a spear gun and deep-sea fishers are given the opportunity to reel in a variety of monstrous fish. Welcoming a new fishing challenge for everyone.

After graduating high school, Cody left his hometown to attend a community college, and later FSU. Real Estate had always been a passion of his, so he found the time to earn his Florida Real Estate License, during college. In 2017 Turek returned home to be around family and eventually pursue a career in real estate, however hurricane season had other plans. On September 10th 2017 Irma made land fall in the Florida Keys, wreaking havoc on the tiny Islands of Monroe County.

The impact from Irma hit the Keys harder than many people knew. Turek saw where he was needed and helped out to clean up the Islands. Cody’s father, Andrew Turek has been a general contractor for the past 30 years. Between watching his father’s work growing up and learning how natural disasters can affect housing he’s gotten a pretty good understanding of the importance in choosing the right home. Turek also learned of the many rules, regulations and permitting that comes with having a property in an area as unique as the Keys.

After considering a few brokerages in the area Turek’s lifelong friend, Derek Rodberg proposed Cody to meet his business partner Shane Wilson. It was an instant connection, Wilson & Rodberg offered Turek join the ‘Waterfront Wilson Team’ on the spot. Turek’s extremely thankful he’s a part of a team filled with such genuine people.

“I chose to go with the Wilson team because they’re a smaller office and have really taken me under their wing. I can call our team leader, Shane Wilson between 5:30am –10pm and guarantee he’ll answer or get back to me within the hour. Not a lot of new Agents can say that about their brokers so I’m happy to be a part of a team that has a leader who really takes the time to invest in their agents,” says Turek on his new position.

Owning a home has become more important now than ever and Turek’s passionate about finding families a safe place, where they can make the kind of memories, he was fortunate enough to have during his childhood. The Waterfront Wilson team has been very busy since the re-opening of the Keys and Turek is happy to announce that he has already sold one listing and has two other properties under contract right now.

Becoming a real estate agent in the Florida Keys was a role Turek was born for.
